Filesvo

XML Formatter & Validator

Paste XML — a config file, a sitemap, an API response — and get it neatly indented with 2 or 4 spaces. Malformed XML is rejected with the parser's actual error message. Comments and CDATA sections are preserved. Nothing is uploaded to Filesvo.

How to use Filesvo

  1. Paste your XML into the box, or upload an .xml file.
  2. Choose 2- or 4-space indentation.
  3. Click Format XML, then copy the result or download it.

Parse, then pretty-print

The document is parsed by your browser's built-in XML engine — so formatting doubles as validation: if it formats, it is well-formed XML. The formatter then re-serializes it with one element per line, attributes kept in place, elements containing only text collapsed onto a single line, and comments and CDATA sections preserved.

One honest note: whitespace inside text content is trimmed during formatting. For data and config files this is what you want; for documents where internal whitespace is significant (rare, but possible with mixed content), check the result before using it.

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser using open-source engines that run in your browser and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.

Frequently asked questions

Does it validate against a schema (XSD/DTD)?
No — it checks well-formedness: matched tags, proper nesting, legal characters. Schema validation needs the schema file and a dedicated validator.
Are comments removed?
No — comments and CDATA sections are kept in place.
Why did the spacing inside my text change?
Pretty-printing normalizes whitespace around text so the structure is readable. Attribute values are never touched; only leading and trailing whitespace in text content is trimmed.
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. Parsing and formatting happen entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device.
