Add a Text Watermark to a PDF

Mark a PDF as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, or anything else. The text is stamped across every page — diagonally, horizontally, or tiled — at the opacity and color you choose. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded to Filesvo.

How to use Filesvo

  1. Select or drop a PDF file — its page count appears once loaded.
  2. Enter the watermark text, pick a style — diagonal, horizontal or tiled — and set the opacity and color.
  3. Click Add watermark and download the watermarked PDF.

How the watermark is applied

The watermark is drawn as semi-transparent text in the standard Helvetica font on top of each page's content, sized automatically to fit the page: one large diagonal or horizontal stamp across the middle, or a repeating tiled pattern covering the whole page. Because it is vector text, it stays crisp at any zoom and barely increases the file size.

A watermark added this way is a visual deterrent, not a security feature — like any overlay watermark from any tool, it can be removed by someone with a PDF editor and enough determination. For confidential documents, combine it with password protection from a tool that supports PDF encryption.

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser using open-source PDF engines that run in your browser and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.

Frequently asked questions

Which characters can the watermark contain?
The built-in Helvetica font covers Latin (Western European) letters, digits and common punctuation. Text in other scripts — Devanagari, Tamil, Chinese, Arabic and so on — is not supported, and the tool will tell you rather than produce a broken stamp.
Does the watermark go over or under the page content?
Over it, at the opacity you set — 15% is subtle, higher values are more assertive. Placing it on top keeps it visible even over images and solid backgrounds.
Can the watermark be removed later?
By a determined person with a PDF editor, yes — that is true of watermarks from any tool. Treat it as labeling, not protection.
Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Watermarking runs entirely in your browser using an open-source PDF library. Your document never leaves your device.
