Compress Image Online
Make image files smaller for uploads, email and faster pages. JPG and WebP are re-encoded at your chosen quality; PNG is compressed by reducing its color palette. Every file shows its exact size change — including the honest case where a file can't get smaller.

How to use Filesvo
- Select or drop JPG, PNG or WebP files, or paste an image from your clipboard.
- Set the quality slider for JPG/WebP and the color count for PNG files.
- Click Compress Images, check the savings on each file, and download.
How image compression works
JPG and WebP are lossy formats: lowering the quality setting lets the encoder discard detail that is hard to see, which shrinks the file. The default 75% quality is a good balance for photos being shared or uploaded; for critical images, raise it and compare.
PNG is lossless, so the only way to make a PNG significantly smaller in the browser is to reduce its number of distinct colors before re-saving. That is a lossy step — it works very well for screenshots, diagrams and graphics, and poorly for photographs, which are better compressed as JPG or WebP.
Private by design
Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in image APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.
Frequently asked questions
- How much smaller will my images get?
- It depends entirely on the image. Photos straight from a camera or phone often shrink by 50–80% at 75% quality. Images that were already compressed may shrink very little — and if a result comes out larger than the original, Filesvo says so plainly instead of pretending it helped.
- Is the compression lossy?
- Yes. JPG and WebP compression discards fine detail at lower quality settings, and PNG compression reduces the color palette. Filesvo never claims otherwise — preview the result and adjust the settings until you're happy with the trade-off.
- Why did my PNG photo barely shrink or look worse?
- PNG palette reduction is designed for graphics with limited colors, like screenshots and charts. Photographs contain millions of subtle color gradations, so palette reduction visibly bands them. Convert photos to JPG or WebP instead — that's the right tool for photographic content.
- Are my files uploaded during compression?
- No. All compression runs in your browser. Your images never reach a Filesvo server.
