About ICO and PNG

ICO is the Windows icon container: one file holding the same image at several sizes (16, 32, 48, 256 pixels and so on) so the system can pick the right one for each context. Almost no image editor or website accepts ICO as a normal image — converting to PNG frees the artwork for general use.

Browsers decode one image from the container — the best (typically highest-resolution) version stored in the file — and that's what becomes your PNG, alpha transparency included. To go the other way and build an ICO from a PNG, a favicon generator is the tool you want.

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in image APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.

Frequently asked questions

Which size does the PNG get when an ICO holds several?
Your browser picks the best version in the file — normally the highest-resolution one — and Filesvo converts exactly what the browser decodes. The output dimensions are shown on each converted file.
Is icon transparency preserved?
Yes. Icons rely heavily on transparency, and PNG carries it over completely.
Can I convert favicon.ico files from websites?
Yes — a site's favicon.ico is a standard ICO file and converts like any other.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Decoding happens in your browser using its built-in ICO support. Filesvo never receives your files.
