Decode Base64 to Text

Paste Base64 and get the original text back. The decoder is forgiving where it safely can be — whitespace and line breaks are ignored, URL-safe Base64 (with - and _) is accepted, and missing padding is repaired — while genuinely invalid input gets a clear error instead of garbage. Nothing is uploaded to Filesvo.

How to use Filesvo

  1. Paste the Base64 into the box, or upload a .txt file.
  2. Click Decode from Base64.
  3. Copy the decoded text or download it.

A decoder for real-world Base64

Base64 you meet in practice is rarely pristine: JWTs and URLs use the URL-safe alphabet, email encodings wrap lines every 76 characters, and copied strings often lose their trailing = padding. This decoder normalizes all of that automatically, so strings from any common source decode without hand-editing.

The decoded bytes are then validated as UTF-8 text. If they aren't text — because the Base64 encodes an image or other binary file — the tool tells you plainly instead of printing gibberish, and points you to the Base64 to Image tool for image data.

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get 'binary data, not UTF-8 text'?
The Base64 is valid but encodes a file — an image, a PDF, compressed data — rather than text. For images, paste it into the Base64 to Image tool; other binary content needs the appropriate application.
Can it decode JWT tokens?
Each of a JWT's three dot-separated parts is URL-safe Base64 — paste the header or payload part alone and it will decode to JSON. The signature part is binary, so it will be refused as non-text.
Does line-wrapped or unpadded Base64 work?
Yes — whitespace and line breaks are stripped, the URL-safe alphabet is translated, and missing = padding is added automatically before decoding.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. Decoding happens entirely in your browser — your data never leaves your device.
