Compress PDF Online
Make a large PDF small enough to email or upload. Each page is re-rendered as a compressed image at the quality you choose, and the result shows both the original and new size so you can decide whether to keep it.

How this compressor works — and when not to use it
Every page is drawn exactly as a PDF viewer would show it, then saved back into the PDF as a JPEG image. Light re-renders at high resolution and quality, Balanced trades a little sharpness for a much smaller file, and Strong goes furthest. Page sizes stay the same, so the document still prints and displays at its proper dimensions.
The trade-off is real and worth understanding before you use it: because each page becomes a picture, text stops being selectable, searchable and copyable. That makes this ideal for scans, photo-heavy brochures and image-based reports — and a poor fit for text documents, contracts and anything that needs to stay searchable. A text-only PDF can even come out larger, which is why both sizes are shown rather than the result being handed over as an improvement.
Private by design
Your files are processed directly in your browser using open-source PDF engines that run in your browser and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.
Frequently asked questions
- Will my text still be selectable afterwards?
- No. Each page becomes an image, so text can no longer be selected, searched or copied. If that matters, keep the original.
- My file got bigger. Why?
- A PDF that is mostly text is already very compact, and turning each page into a picture can take more space than the text did. The tool reports the increase and tells you to keep the original instead of pretending it helped.
- How much smaller will my file be?
- It depends entirely on what is in it — scans and image-heavy PDFs often shrink dramatically, text documents barely at all. Filesvo shows the real before-and-after figures for your file rather than quoting an average.
- Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
- No. Pages are rendered and the new PDF is written entirely in your browser, with an open-source PDF engine. The file never leaves your device.
