Barcode Generator
Generate the two most widely used linear barcode types: Code 128 for arbitrary text — serial numbers, order IDs, tracking references — and EAN-13 for the 13-digit product numbers on retail packaging. Preview instantly, then download a crisp PNG or an infinitely scalable SVG. Everything runs in your browser, so what you encode never leaves your device.
Processed on your device — files are never uploaded to Filesvo.
How to use Filesvo
- Choose Code 128 (any text) or EAN-13 (product number).
- Type the text or the 12-digit number — the EAN-13 check digit is added automatically.
- Click Generate, then download the PNG or SVG.
Standard symbologies, generated locally
Code 128 (ISO/IEC 15417) encodes the full printable ASCII range and is the workhorse of logistics and internal labelling. The generator computes the mandatory modulo-103 checksum and automatically switches to the compact digits mode for long runs of numbers, so the bars stay as short as possible. Text with characters outside printable ASCII — accents, emoji — is refused with a clear message; use the QR code generator for those.
EAN-13 (ISO/IEC 15420) is the retail product code used on packaging worldwide (UPC barcodes are the 12-digit subset). Enter 12 digits and the check digit is computed for you; enter all 13 and the tool verifies the check digit, telling you the correct one if it doesn't match — a wrong check digit is the most common reason a printed barcode won't scan.
Private by design
Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.
Frequently asked questions
- Which type should I use?
- EAN-13 only for retail product numbers — it encodes exactly 13 digits, nothing else. For everything else that scanners need to read — serial numbers, asset tags, order references — use Code 128. For URLs or longer text, a QR code is the better fit.
- Will these scan reliably?
- Yes — both are generated to their ISO specifications, including checksums and the standard quiet zone (blank margin) on each side. When printing, keep the quiet zone intact and don't scale the PNG down below the size you generated; the SVG scales to any size safely.
- Why was my EAN-13 number rejected?
- Either it isn't exactly 12 or 13 digits (spaces and dashes are ignored), or its 13th digit fails the checksum — the tool tells you the correct check digit. Real product numbers are assigned by GS1; a made-up number will scan but won't match any product database.
- Is my text sent to a server?
- No. The barcode is computed entirely in your browser — whatever you encode never leaves your device.
