Remove EXIF Data from Photos

Remove hidden metadata — including GPS location, camera details and timestamps — from photos before sharing them. Filesvo edits the file structure directly instead of re-encoding, so the image pixels are bit-for-bit identical to the original.

How to use Filesvo

  1. Select or drop JPG, PNG or WebP files, or paste an image from your clipboard.
  2. Click Remove Metadata — each file reports how much metadata was deleted.
  3. Download the clean copies individually or all at once.

Lossless metadata removal

Most online EXIF removers work by re-saving the image, which silently recompresses it and costs quality. Filesvo instead removes the metadata segments from the file container itself: EXIF, XMP, IPTC and comment blocks in JPGs; text, EXIF and timestamp chunks in PNGs; EXIF and XMP chunks in WebP files. The compressed pixel data passes through untouched.

Color-management data (ICC profiles) is deliberately kept, because removing it can visibly change how colors are displayed. One honest caveat: the EXIF orientation flag is metadata too. Photos that relied on it to display upright — common with phone cameras — may appear rotated in some software after cleaning. If that happens, re-save the photo once in any editor first, then strip it.

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in image APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.

Frequently asked questions

Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?
No. The pixel data is copied through without any decoding or re-encoding, so quality is exactly identical — this is verifiable, since the image data bytes don't change. Only the metadata blocks are removed.
What exactly gets removed?
EXIF data (camera, settings, dates, GPS), XMP and IPTC blocks, embedded comments, and PNG text/timestamp chunks. ICC color profiles are kept so your image's colors don't shift.
Why does my photo appear rotated after cleaning?
Your camera stored the photo sideways and used an EXIF orientation flag to tell viewers to rotate it. That flag is metadata, so removal deletes it. Open the original in any editor, save it once (which applies the rotation to the pixels), then remove the metadata.
Can Filesvo see the photos I clean?
No. The entire process runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, which you can confirm by using the tool offline.
