JPG vs PNG
JPG stores photos with lossy compression, which keeps files small but permanently discards some detail each time the image is re-saved. PNG is lossless: once converted, the image can be edited and re-saved without any further quality loss.
Converting JPG to PNG does not restore detail the JPG already lost, and the PNG file will usually be noticeably larger than the original JPG. The conversion is worth it when you need a format that survives repeated editing, or when a system specifically requires PNG input.
Private by design
Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in image APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.
Frequently asked questions
- Will converting JPG to PNG improve image quality?
- No. PNG preserves the image exactly as it is at conversion time, but it cannot recover detail that JPG compression already removed. The benefit is that no further quality is lost from this point on.
- Why is my PNG larger than the original JPG?
- PNG is a lossless format, so it stores far more data than a compressed JPG — for photos, the PNG is typically two to five times larger. That is expected and normal.
- Is anything uploaded to Filesvo?
- No. The conversion runs in your browser using native image APIs. Your photos stay on your device from start to finish.
- Can I convert many JPG files in one go?
- Yes. Add multiple files and they are converted one after another with independent results — a problem with one file never blocks the others.
