Reduce Image Size to a Target KB
Government portals, job applications and visa forms often demand an image 'under 100 KB' or 'under 200 KB'. Enter that number and Filesvo finds the best quality that fits — lowering quality first, then scaling the image down only if it has to. Every result reports honestly whether the target was met.

How to use Filesvo
- Select or drop JPG, PNG or WebP files, or paste an image from your clipboard.
- Enter your target size in KB and choose JPG or WebP output.
- Click Reduce File Size, check each result's final size and quality, and download.
How size targeting works
Filesvo binary-searches the encoder's quality setting to find the highest quality that still fits under your target. If even the minimum quality is too big, the image is scaled down in steps of 20% and the search repeats — so the tool trades resolution only when it truly has to.
Output is JPG or WebP because size targeting needs a quality dial, and PNG doesn't have one — PNG inputs are converted, which for photos usually shrinks them dramatically anyway. WebP typically hits the same target at visibly better quality than JPG, so prefer it wherever the site you're uploading to accepts WebP.
Private by design
Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in image APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.
Frequently asked questions
- Will my image always reach the target size?
- Almost always, because the tool can lower quality and scale down. In the rare case where even the smallest, lowest-quality version is still over the target, Filesvo says so plainly on that file instead of silently giving you an oversized result.
- Why can't I get PNG output?
- PNG is lossless and has no quality setting to search, so a specific byte target can't be dialed in. Choose JPG for maximum compatibility with upload forms, or WebP for better quality at the same size.
- Does the image get smaller in pixels too?
- Only if it must. Quality reduction is always tried first at full resolution. When downscaling was needed to reach your target, the result card tells you, along with the final dimensions.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. The whole quality search runs in your browser — your image is encoded several times on your own device, and nothing is sent anywhere.
