Base64 to Image Converter

Paste a Base64 string or data URI and get the original image back — previewed on screen and ready to download. The format is detected automatically, and the decoding happens entirely in your browser.

Processed on your device — files are never uploaded to Filesvo.

How to use Filesvo

  1. Paste the Base64 string or full data URI into the text box.
  2. Click Decode — the image appears with its detected format and size.
  3. Download the decoded file.

How Base64 decoding works

Base64 turns binary data into text so it can travel through systems built for text — web pages, JSON APIs, email. Decoding reverses that mapping exactly: the file you download is byte-for-byte identical to what was originally encoded, with no quality change in either direction.

Filesvo reads the content type from the data URI prefix when one is present. For raw Base64 without a prefix, it identifies the format from the decoded file's own signature bytes — so a pasted PNG downloads as .png and a JPG as .jpg, even with no prefix at all. Whitespace and line breaks in the pasted text are handled automatically.

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in image APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I get an 'invalid Base64' error?
Usually the string was truncated during copying, or extra text — quotes, commas, HTML — came along with it. Copy the complete string only. Line breaks and spaces are fine; Filesvo removes those automatically.
Does decoding change image quality?
No. Base64 is a reversible text encoding, not compression. The decoded file is exactly the file that was encoded, byte for byte.
How is the image format detected?
From the data URI's declared type when present, otherwise from the decoded data's magic bytes — the signature at the start of every PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP, BMP or PDF file. Unrecognized data can still be downloaded as a generic binary file.
Is the Base64 string sent anywhere?
No. Decoding uses your browser's built-in atob function and runs completely on your device.
