BMP to JPG Converter

BMP files store every pixel uncompressed, which makes them enormous. Converting to JPG usually shrinks them by well over 90% while looking identical at high quality — and it all happens on your device.

About BMP and JPG

BMP is one of the oldest raster formats, produced by Windows tools, screenshots from legacy software, scanners and scientific instruments. It's typically uncompressed: a 4000×3000 image is around 36 MB regardless of content. Virtually nothing on the modern web accepts it.

JPG compresses photographic content to a small fraction of that size. For images with hard edges and flat colors — old screenshots, diagrams — PNG is the better target; use the BMP to PNG converter for those to avoid compression artifacts.

Private by design

Your files are processed directly in your browser using the browser's built-in image APIs and are not uploaded to Filesvo. Nothing is stored on our servers, because nothing ever reaches them.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my BMP get?
Photographic BMPs typically shrink by 90–98% at the default quality. Filesvo shows the exact before/after size for every file.
Will the JPG look different?
At 90% quality the difference is rarely visible for photos. Hard-edged graphics may show slight artifacts around edges — convert those to PNG instead.
Which BMP variants are supported?
Whatever your browser can display — which covers the standard uncompressed 24-bit and 32-bit BMPs that almost all software produces. If a BMP fails, it likely uses a rare compression variant.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The conversion runs completely in your browser. Filesvo never receives your files.
